It’s been six years since Eric Garner repeated “I can’t breathe” eleven times while lying face down on a sidewalk in New York. It’s been six years since he lost consciousness on that sidewalk and remained lying there for seven minutes until an ambulance to arrive.
Eric Garner was married to Esaw Garner and was a father to six children and three grandchildren. He worked at the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation as a horticulturist before quitting for health reasons.
Today, we remember Mr. Garner and we continue to fight for justice for him and the countless other black men and women who died at the hands of the police.
